OFSTED DEC 2008

Teaching and learning are good. Good questioning prompts children to think more deeply. The outdoor provision includes all the areas of learning and is exemplary, because it has been creatively developed with the needs and enjoyment of children in mind. The curriculum has a good impact on children’s learning and development and is enriched and extended very well. Plans for teaching are flexible and depend on children’s interests.

A Note From The Site Designer

When visiting Kendal Nursery I was taken a back by the outside environment that the children had to play in. Although I have tried to represent the gardens as well as I can, I cannot truly capture the peaceful, interactive area on camera.

If you are a Parent and taking the decision as to where your child should begin their school life, I would recommend a visit to this beautifully equiped local resource.
Learning and Teaching at Brantfield

Our learning and teaching strategies are based on the knowledge that children learn at varying rates; that learning is not necessarily linear; and that individuals learn in different ways. The staff also know that they must consider every aspect of a childs development.
Talk and communication are at the heart of learning and so the adult role impacts on all aspects involved in the learning process – the environment, the curriculum and therefore learning:
  • Staff interactions are key to making everything come together to maximise learning opportunities.
  • Staff nurture interests, guide and support children and learning
  • Staff plan how resources are presented and introduced
  • Staff set expectations for children’s behaviour and use of resources and the environment
  • Staff decide how learning will be extended
  • Staff are aware of children’s desires and interests

The following list shows a few of the strategies uses by staff to support learning, each will be adapted to the individual child and the intended learning outcomes:
  • Appropriate new experiences
  • Fostering independence
  • Opportunities for praise and feedback
  • A range of adult interaction strategies supporting, extending and leading learning
