Environment.
The children have a class base inside and work together in the outdoor environment. The complete environment is safe and is carefully structured to enable children to independently access resources in order to develop their own interests and skills. Staff plan a well balanced range of opportunities both indoors and out and support and extend childrens interests, play and learning.
Resource Areas
The Nursery School environment is organized into areas which enable children to access all areas of the Foundation Stage curriculum. These include:
Malleable materials - dough, clay
Mark making
Books
Workshop
Sand and Water
Role play
Construction, Small World and imaginative play
Fine motor – puzzles, threading etc.
Computer
Each of these areas has the potential for development in many areas of learning. Staff ensure progression and challenge for children through careful planning of equipment and activities. Children move easily and safely between areas of the indoor and outdoor environments which are set up to enable children to independently access resources to extend their play and learning. They have free access to self-service drinks (milk and water) and fruit during the session.
The daily routine allows time for children to persist and develop their play and interactive learning supported by sensitive staff involvement. Children are encouraged to make choices as they work in self-initiated, adult led or adult directed activities which extend learning. The children also work both independently and in a whole group situation including a short daily adult-led story/song/rhyme time which helps build group awareness and shared learning.
